To do that, you need as many pixels of resolution as you can get. With Sony's three-chip LCD technology, each 0.87" LCD chip delivers 1,092,168 pixels of resolution. That's a total of 3.28 million pixels that deliver an image with incredibly fine detail and clarity. Compare this to the one-chip alternatives that are out there. As Sony's 3-chip LCD technology dedicates an LCD chip to each of the three primary colours (red, green and blue), concern over colour separation, flicker, ghosting and convergence is eliminated. THE WEGA ENGINE |
The WEGA Engine is a unique Sony advantage that is a key driving force behind the superior picture quality of the Grand WEGA television. Based on Sony's expertise in digital signal processing, the WEGA Engine processes all video signals in the digital domain. By completing all video processing digitally, there is no need to repeatedly convert back and forth between an analog and digital signal. This serves to eliminate any degradation in the video signal and unwanted video noise generation.
The WEGA engine components are designed to optimize picture quality, regardless of the video source, allow for TwinView picture and picture viewing of both a standard and high resolution NTSC signal simultaneously, while at the same time optimizing picture quality, sharpness and resolution. A few notes about HDTV |
DTV (Digital Television) is no longer just a mirage, shimmering on the horizon. Lots of people are already enjoying its crystal-clear picture and sound � and raving about it to their friends. DTV consists of two subgroups: HDTV (High-Definition TV) and SDTV (Standard-Definition TV). If you consider our current analog NTSC TV system to be "good," then SDTV qualifies as "better," and HDTV is far and away the "best." Once you've seen HDTV's ultra-sharp detail, lifelike depth, and vivid colors, regular TV seems dull and lifeless. HDTV owners swear that high-def viewing is "like looking through a window."
There are three basic ways to receive HDTV signals: Over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts from your local network and PBS affiliate stations; digital satellite TV providers such as DIRECTV or EchoStar (DISHNetwork); and finally, HDTV via cable. The first step on the road to HDTV is determining what signals are available to you, and what equipment you need to receive those signals.
Once you've determined which DTV signals are available to you, it's time to think about which type of digital TV makes the most sense. There are two basic paths to HDTV viewing. An integrated HDTV combines a high-scan-rate display and an HDTV tuner in one package. The tuner can usually receive both digital and analog over-the-air broadcasts (a few models can also receive DIRECTV satellite signals). An HDTV set has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio.
An HDTV-ready TV, HDTV Compatible, or HDTV monitor have the high-scan-rate display, but must be connected to a separate �HDTV tuner � to receive digital broadcasts. Most TVs of this nature include an NTSC tuner for viewing regular analog programs. HDTV-Ready/ Compatible/ Monitor, TVs can have either the conventional 4:3 aspect ratio or the widescreen 16:9 ratio.
HDTV (High-Definition TV) is a widescreen, near-film-quality format featuring Dolby� Digital audio (but not necessarily 5.1-channel). The two most common HDTV varieties are 1,080-line interlaced scan (1080i) and 720-line progressive scan (720p). 1080i has 1,080 lines of vertical resolution and 1,920 pixels across each line. 720p has 720 vertical lines with 1,280 pixels across each line. |
