The Toshiba 62HM84/62HM14 62-inch DLP Television features a proprietary Digital Light Engine named TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine) designed and manufactured by Toshiba. This new system utilizes Texas Instruments' new step-up HD2+ chip to provide high resolution with enhanced brightness and contrast. At less than 16 inches deep, the 62HM84 has a flat panel like appearance and occupies considerably less space than traditional rear projection sets. The Toshiba 62HM84 also incorporates the new Toshiba PixelPure Digital Video Processing Suite. Utilizing Toshiba's advanced circuitry, PixelPure delivers the consistent high-quality picture expected from Toshiba TVs.

The 62HM84 employs new Toshiba TheaterFine^TM DFP Screen technology with a Digital Fine Pitch and Anti-Glare Coating that results in incredible detail and noticeably deeper blacks. New Radiance^TM DC Lamp technology features high brightness and lower power modes (for extended life), and a unique Instant Restart feature that allows the sets to restart instantly after power down. HD2+ DLP^TM technology takes advantage of a new manufacturing process which enables projectors that feature it to deliver even higher contrast ratios. It also features dark video enhancement (DVE) made possible by changes to the color wheel to give even better video performance in dark scenes. At the same time, HD2+ delivers higher brightness and true blacks and whites.

The lamp has a unique Instant Restart feature, allowing the TV to be turned on immediately after shutdown, unlike other lamp based TVs.

The lamp features a 120-Watt High Brightness mode for daytime use with ambient room light and 100-Watt mode for nighttime in a dark room, which also extends the lamp life.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI^TM provides the best interface between a digital television and compatible products, such as a DVD player. When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: Multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices and simple control Protocols. CableClear^TM DNR+ (By Input)

CableClear^TM Digital Noise Reduction reduces visible interference in your TV picture. This is useful when receiving a broadcast with a weak signal (especially a Cable channel) or playing a video cassette or disc damaged by repeated use.

HD Dynamic Contrast

The HD Dynamic Contrast feature continually analyzes picture information and enhances those parts of the picture with the most detailed information. This results in a sharper, deeper image with rich colors and a more film-like image.

3DYC (4-MB, 10 Bit) Digital Comb Filter with Vertical Contour Correction

In addition to separating the Y (black and white) and C (color) elements of a video signal, a 3D Y/C filter performs two additional key functions. While comparing three consecutive horizontal scan lines within a single video frame, it also analyzes each frame in advance, ensuring the best possible picture.

Black Level Expander

This capability allows viewers to set the reference black threshold cutoff to either Normal or Enhanced. The Enhanced position expands the overall contrast range in the picture, resulting in richer, deeper blacks, finer tonal gradation and gray scale reproduction.

Picture Modes

You can select your desired picture type from four picture modes: Sports, Standard, Movie, and Preference. Sports provides a bright and dynamic picture while Movie provides a soft, cinema-like picture setting. Preference is a custom setting you can create from your personal preferences.

Auto Aspect Detection

When the AUTO ASPECT feature is set to ON and the TV receives a 480i signal, the picture size is automatically selected.

Five TheaterWide^? Modes

You can view 480i, 480p and 1080i format programs in a variety of picture sizes -- Natural, Theater Wide 1, Theater Wide 2, Theater Wide 3, and Full (the Full picture size is not selectable for 1080i format program). Select the picture size that displays the current program the way that looks best to you. In Natural picture size the image is displayed close to its originally formatted proportion. Other Theater Wide modes enlarge the picture to fit the screen.

Cinema Mode (Film/Video)

When you view a DVD movie (3:2 pulldown processed) from a DVD player connected to the ColorStream (component video) inputs on the TV, smoother and more natural motion can be obtained by setting the CINEMA MODE to FILM.

SRS^? WOW Audio (3D, Tru-Bass, Focus)

SRS^? WOW is a state-of-the-art technology from SRS Labs that dramatically improves the quality, dynamics, image field size and bass tones. Ordinary stereo performance of audio is usually a rather limited spatial presentation, and often suffers from a lackluster bass (low frequency) performance. WOW helps televisions deliver a dramatically improved audio performance with increased sound image size, dynamics and immersion.
